Priya Sharma took her first solo trip at 26 following a difficult year personally. She'd never traveled alone before. She booked a flight to Lisbon because it was the cheapest destination she could find from Mumbai with an entry visa, and told herself she'd figure out the rest when she got there.

She figured it out. She also discovered that she was, it turned out, exactly the kind of person who thrives when traveling alone.

Ten years later, Priya has traveled solo to 47 countries across six continents. She has stayed in $5 dorm beds in Southeast Asia, boutique guesthouses in rural Portugal, riads in Marrakech, and overwater villas in the Maldives. The breadth of accommodation experience has made her one of the most knowledgeable writers working on the subject of how to find genuinely good places to stay at every budget level.

Priya is also a recognized voice on solo female travel safety, having spoken at World Travel Market London in 2023 and 2024. She writes honestly about the safety realities of different destinations for women traveling alone — neither dismissing genuine risks nor amplifying them beyond what the evidence supports.

She is based between Mumbai and wherever she happens to be researching.
